I came home yesterday and my landlady was there with a young girl, showing her the house since she was interested in moving into one of the spare rooms. We only talked for half an hour, but I was quite amazed by this girl.
She is 20 years old and her mom left to the Big Island. She tried to go with her but it didn’t work out, so she came back to Oahu and went to every single family member asking for help and none of them was willing to give it. She told us that the homeless people at the beach were kind to her and took her in when no one else would, so thats where she is staying right now. But instead of giving up, she took a part-time job next to her school and saved up enough for a car and for the rent for a small room.
I come from a family where I know I will ALWAYS have a place to stay, no matter what and it’s hard to understand how family members can let someone down like that. Sure, I don’t know the whole story, but lately I see it happen more and more-families are falling apart because nobody cares for the others anymore. Everyone is stressed out and annoyed and watching the favorite TV show is more inportant than spending time with the family. To me, there is nothing more important than spending time with my husband and finding things we can do together. The world has grown so cold when making it warmer is so easy…it is all about love. Tell your family that you love them. Help an old lady across the street. Give a homeless a new set of clothes. Smile at the people you meet. Go to a shelter and walk one of the many abandoned dogs. Spend some time with someone you know is lonely a lot. Say “please” and “thank you” and..
If everyone would do small, easy things like that, the world would already be a better place…
